2001 Ram 1500 Tranny Problem

Howdy all. Got a huge tranny problem that started today. Driving down the road and started hearing a noise that sounded like something stuck to the driveshaft - flapping around underneath. Didn't see anything when I stopped. Got to the house and experimented a bit. Put it in park, then rev., and it went about 3 feet then apparently popped into park. Tried drive - nothing; tried 1st - no problem. Back into park, then into drive - no problem. Tried rev. again - same problem. My guess is a broken gear tooth, possibly in the OD unit. Any suggestions?? Any advice??

Thanks in advance,
Mike.

Might just be a sensor. To start, I'd disconnect the battery for awhile, hook it back up and then see if it shifts. Then you'll know.

Re: 2001 Ram 1500 Tranny Problem

Hi, I am also having tranny problems. I have an '01 Ram 1500 and the reverse just went out. It still drives okay, changes all gears except reverse. I put it in reverse and it jumps like it's working but when I press the gas, I get nothing. Any suggestions. Or am I really going to have to get a new tranny?

Thanks toniamnr.
