i heard from someone you need a smaller belt if im going from the stock 3.8 to the 3.4 is this true or can i just move the tensioner.

also does anyone have a 3.4" pulley i could buy from them. im looking to get one for my 98 grand prix. i only have an intake on but i think itll be ok.

Re: 3.4

This guide from Pulley Boys should give you an idea on the work and tool (puller) required:

http://www.pulleyboys.com/swap.html

No matter what size pulley you use get a Goodyear Gatorback SC drive belt. Here is a guide:

- 4060660 belt = 3.25” - 3.4” pulleys
- 4060650 belt = 2.9” - 3.1” pulleys
- 4060642 belt = 2.7” - 2.85” pulleys

4060660 Belt - 66.0" long
4060650 Belt - 65.0" long
4060642 Belt - 64.2" long

Good luck!

Speaking from experience because it is the best....period and at a reasonable cost. Quiet and minimizes any possible pulley slippage whereby maximizing boost.

But the choice is yours.

It is a decision you have to carefully weigh. The 3800 is a very resilient engine. It would take more than a 3.4 pulley mod to hurt it. The tranny is the biggest concern of most GTP owners. However, according to GM and ZZPerformance the 4T65E-HD is good for continuous mid 13 second runs. I still have my original tranny including engine and supercharger over a period of 8 years of ownership and the last 3 years out at the dragstrip. I finished 2005 with a best 1/4 mile ET of 13.2 @ 104 mph. But I will have to consider adding an oil cooler this year due to additional mods.
