2001 cruise button wont go off?

Just maybe someone had this happen too;
Setting on curise control,, and simply to turn of the unit,, press
the button and it ignores the command,,, If I press quickly 6-8 times
it might decide to kick system off.. I pryed up on the button with 2 real small screw drivers to give the botton more depth to depress, that worked for awhile,, any thoughts.? thanks Phil....

Phil, I had a similar problem on my 99, except that it would not turn on. I removed the switch from the wheel (pry it out carefully), then disassembled the switch (2 or 3 screws) and cleaned it out. I could not believe how much dust and dirt was inside. Re-assembled and re-installed and it worked perfectly. The only catch was that you need to rig up a wiring harness to reattached the electrical leads. I used some PC parts from Radio Shack. Total parts cost was about $5. Good luck!
