Dump Valves
At the risk of sounding like a complete and utter d**k, is it _AT ALL_ possible to fit a dump valve to a non-turbo'd car? I know this question is vunerable to much piss taking- a la "why don't you get a car WITH a turbo, you pussy"- but, due to insurance reasons, I can't afford it.
Then there's the question- "why fit a dump valve to a non-turbo anyway?", well, the answers simple- I LOVE THAT 'psssshhhh' sound of it, well, dumping! ![]() If anyone could refrain from taking the piss, and reply with sensible comments/answers, it would be VM appreciated... Cheers :alien:

in order to not sound like a moron, or a pussy as you put it, you should research things a little before just asking straight out. first off the dump valves which you call them are actually blow-off valves. they release the excess pressure built up by the turbo so the turbo does not backspool. now what i want to know is what are you planning to vent if there is no turbo to build pressure with. venting air at atmospheric pressure into the atmosphere isnt going to make any noise. i have heard of a speaker thing you can buy which makes that pssssh noise every time you shift, but i think the kids that use those are pussies, so i never looked into the validity of those claims. you can look around on the net for one, or maybe someone knows where to get one on here, but if i were you i would not buy anyways. either get the turbo, or live without hearing the noise.

Well, thank you for that lesson. But I am very much aware of what a _dump valve_ (a very valid name for the part in England) does. I was just curious if there was anywhere it could be fitted (ie outlet manifold) where there could be enough pressure to cause the blow off on throttle release.
I assure you- if my insurance wasn't already over a thousand pounds for a standard 1.0 litre, I _would_ buy a turbo'd motor. But unfortunately- due to the british government being a bunch of conning bastards, it is- so I wont! ![]() Any, prefferably more understanding members, have any comments? THANKS

there are two other ways to get similar sounds...i have never heard a blow off valve but, the purging of nitrous makes a psshhhhh sound as does air bags

No point putting nitrous on my car- it's a one litre, even with a nos kit, it'd still be shit slow.
I just had a look for those speaker things- I found one, and it was like £250!!!! (over $300)... For a crappy little speaker thing that doesn't really do anything but go 'hissssssss'! Anyone know of any that have a slightly more realistic price tag?

did I miss something, or did you just confuse someone's signature with a suggested method of making a hiss sound?
I made a squirt gun for one of my cars out of an air compressor, a high-pressure tank, some tubes, a nozzle, and a few other odds and ends... the same idea could be adapted to your needs - pressurize (or suck the air out of) a tank, then allow air out (or in) in a controlled fashion via a valve - that will make a hissing sound for you.

That makes just as much sense as hooking up a boost gauge to see how much vaccum you have. It must be a UK thing or something. Why dont you just but a turbo escort or some other car that has a turbo!

i saw some shit on ebay awhile back that attaches to your muffler tip, that uses gas fumes to make some kinda turbo sound, not sure how good it can be tho.
