Thumbs down Oil Consumption

I am currently looking for people who have experienced the problem of their Isuzu Trooper's or Rodeo's burning oil, and/or who have blown their engines due to high oil consumption. I currently have a 2000 Trooper in which the engine just blew. It was burning oil like mad. Isuzu will not replace the engine, which will cost $7,400. The Tooper only has 49,000 miles on it and the warranty just expired 6 months ago. I am in the process of filing a law suit against Isuzu, and would like to hear from all of you who are, or who have gone through this same problem. If enough people band together, this can turn into a class action law suit. It's time us "little people" stick up for ourselves against corporate america. Please e-mail me at [email protected]

And yes, Amigo, The "specs" do say 1qt of oil per 1000 miles is considered within Isuzu's standard. My question then, is, what do other manufactures consider "within standards". I can create a vehicle that I know fails in one area, and create my own "specs" so that I am covering my butt. That doesn't make it legal if someone can prove there is a manufacturers defect. This I can prove. Quit making excuses for Isuzu, and start helping the "little guy". That's what these forums are supposed to be about.

I too have a 2000 Isuzu Trooper, 4WD, Automatic; bought it used from an Isuzu dealer back in 2001 with 20,000 miles on it. About 2 years ago I noticed an increase in the oil consumption after having the EGR valve replaced at the dealer. Anyway, I've tried the CD-2 additive and the Seafoam additive, and I did a cylinder soak on three consecutive weekends to try to unplug the oil return ports in the cyclinders. All this to no avail; it's using about a quart every 300-400 miles under highway driving conditions. I have resigned myseld to carrying a 5-quart jug of oil along all the time now and I check the oil at every fill-up.

Still, I see your point and support you in this endeavor. Isuzu should never put out a product that uses so much oil and that has such a high risk and probability of catastrophic failure.

We hope to trade it off sometime this year...

Good luck!

Mentalman, again, sorry to hear of your situation. There is nothing normal about this oil consumption issue. Forum members have been trying to help and have asked you questions that you have yet to answer. These are critical. 1) Are you the original owner? 2) If not, did you buy this truck 'certified used' at an isuzu dealer? 3) Did you make isuzu aware of the oil usage when you first discovered it? If a dealer had record of your oil usage concern and had service/maintenance records on file, your chances will be good at getting some or all costs covered. If you have NO service history with a dealership + your warranty is expired, you will have little chance of reimbursement. Like I said in one of your other posts, unfortunately isuzu NA is all but defunct. Legal recourse will be costly to you. Maintenance history and documentation of the oil usage is of major importance. WIthout those you are SOL.

LEM, sorry to hear the seafoam soaks didnt work for you. We were all waiting for a follow-up to the original post in regards to this.
