Idle until almost dead
When I first bought my (used) 02' TB, it was February of 05'. Around when I bought it, and just now, I will be sitting at a light and it will adle down until it almost dies. It will spudder a little and the idle back up to regular power. Would the gas around Nov-March (South Texas) cause my TB to do this?

No, but a sticking Idle Air Control would. It can be cleaned (with sensor safe cleaner!) or replaced. |

Re: Idle until almost dead
Also possible, if I remember correctly, there is a tsb on this for a software update in the pcm, if you cannot correct by cleaning the TB then check with a dealer on this.

Trying to die still sounds like the idle air control to me. Sorry, I am not at work so cant check the TSB on it though. |

Re: Idle until almost dead
I have too have had the idle drop problem about 3 times, where would the control you talking about be located? and how would you go about cleaning it? also, are TSB covered by GM? even if your vehicle is out of warrenty? I also have the high reving, jet engine sound every now and then but it seems to just happen to me when I first start it up and quits after a few seconds. any recommendations on how to replace the clutch fan? and a good place to get parts?

Re: Idle until almost dead
There is no idle air control (IAC) valve on throttle by wire equipped engine like the 4.2L. The TBW system (self) actuates the throttle to maintain idle speed on a cold engine. I'd do a throttle body cleaning if you are experiencing idle issues. The roaring sound on a cold takeoff is the fan clutch. It's fine provided the roaring stops after that first takeoff.
G/luck Joel

Re: Idle until almost dead
Im with Joel, clean the throttle body. It does wonders for symptoms like these plus can help with your mileage too. Takes 30min tops and cost like 4 bucks for brake/MAF cleaner.
