How safe is it really?

I need some hard facts and percentages on proving to my parents that the 240sx hatchback is a safe and reliable first car. If anyone can show me some stats or a site I would be most apprciative. Thanks

Here are a few things you might wanna tell them:

-It has great brakes.
-I think it comes with airbags, and abs is an option.
-Nissan has decent reliability.
-Parts are inexpensive.
-Not as fast as it looks (only 144 horsepower)
-Fairly frugal gaswise
-Automatic seatbelts
-They are cheap.

Go to www.cars.com and look in "Reviews"

make that 155 hp. lolz and 135 for the sohc version in 89/90. but yeah its very very nimble handles well and has really good feedback from the steering wheel. only problem is, i want abs on my car!!!! sooo many close calls in the rain!! and yeah if your not careful in the rain. .......... just drive slower in the rain. lolz you'd be amazed at how easily this car drifts in the wet.

Correction brakes are good...not great...you might want to lie about that part. A brake upgrade might be in your future if you want excellent brakes like Q45 brakes or Z32 brakes.

yes their good but not great, but thats why i always leave it in gear until the last minute right before the engine starts to bog then i put it in neutral. yup decreases stoping distance by alot, and if worse comes to worse, power stop. :smoka:

10 inch rotors...what a joke...I mean common! What they should have done was put the 11 inch brakes on the 240SX w/either 4 piston (Z32) or 2 piston sliding (Q45) and put some at least 12 inch rotors on the Z.

If you're just considering brake size, then 240sx brakes arent that impressive. But consider the 240sx braking power vs the parents idea of what a kids first car should be (an old accord for example). In which case, the 240sx has great brakes.
