Ran out of Gas!!!

My wife ran our 99 Honda Passport out of gass today! I went to get her some gas, and initially added 2gal., She tried to start it and it sounded as if it was tring to start. she tried again and it didn't sound like it was tring to start, I though it might be flooded. so we went and got 2 gal. more. let it sit for about 30min. and tried again, still wouldn't start. so we let it sit for about 2hrs. and still wouldn't start, so I called a friend, he came down and we checked the fuel line at the shreider (Spelling?) Valve, and there was no gas comeing through. so we determined it was the Fuel pump. Does this sound right? if so where can I get a good priced Fuel pump?

Re: Ran out of Gas!!!

St. Charles Isuzu is the place to go. Check the FAQ's and there is some good write ups on taking the fuel pump out of the tank (look for the gas gauage posts.

Re: Ran out of Gas!!!

Try this first...
Get you your knees(or just bend over) by the rear drivers side tire. Once you are position, have your wife turn the key to the On position, but not start it. If you hear some noise, then it means the fuel pump is working. No point buying a new pump when yours works fine. If you hear the noise, I suggest you go ahead and change out the fuel filter first (~$10-15). That's a can shaped object on the inner drivers side frame rail around where the drivers door is. Sometimes when running the tank that low, sediment is sucked in and you could have clogged the filter. While you have the hose unplugged, you could also turn the ignition to on to see if any gas comes out, if you want to double check the fuel pump. Worse case scenario, this isn't the problem, but at least you'll have a new fuel filter in!

Good advice, I totally agree with it....
