Please advice on how to replace FUEL FILTER for Civic 90
Hi guys
Could anyone please advice on how i change the fuel filter on my 1990 civic ? I read that you need to first unbolt the banjo bolts but i have no idea which ones these are. Does anyone know if there are any online photographs showing you how to do this ? the problem is i dont know which bolt is which so i would need a better description of it so i can identify which bolt is which. any help is immensley appreciated. Cheers Katrina |

Sorry Terry.. just one more question.
I looked at the images and under the very first image there is this " First of all remove the intake tubing from the throttle body and filter box " . I dont know where exactly this is as the image does not have arrows saying which exact part it refers to..can you help ? thanks heaps. Quote:

Re: Please advice on how to replace FUEL FILTER for Civic 90
word of advice, banjo bolt under the service bolt is a pain in the ass to get off, its round with two flat sides, think a 19mm fits it, but I may be wrong. They make a special tool to take it off with, your local parts store may have it to loan out if you get in a bind and need it.

Re: Re: Please advice on how to replace FUEL FILTER for Civic 90
thanks for the heads up ThesilentChamber.
I will try it with a regular wrench and see what happens...i am in London and i doubt auto parts store would loan me the special wrench over here. Hopefully i wont need it...but if i do, do they just call it "banjo bolt wrench " ? Thanks again Katrina Quote:

I used regular wrenches and had no problem, but I bent the holder a bit. Why do you need to take the intake hose out?!

Re: Please advice on how to replace FUEL FILTER for Civic 90
Livinincalifornia..thanks for responding..i am a local SF gal now living in London .
Thanks you guys.. Well i read online that it was advised to take the intake hoses but when i went back to my car and re-inspected, it does not appear necessary to remove intake hoses to remove filter.. BTW can anyone shed some light on this..i imported my Honda from Austria and it is a CIVIC, 16 Valve , 1.4 (something something dont remember the last two digits ) fuel injected and the model is ED6 . When i was shopping for a new fuel filter the auto shops could not find my model on there database..can anyone please tell me if there is a difference between ED6 AND ED7 (they have parts for ED7 ). I would really appreciate it..i see honda's that look exactly like mine around town but i dont know what the ED6 actually stands for. Thanks in advance Karina Quote:

A regular wrench will work fine. It is a pain though. I had to get on the driver side of the car to wrench it off. GL

Re: Re: Please advice on how to replace FUEL FILTER for Civic 90
Hi..me again-
I took off the fuel filter earlier today...BUT i'm real worried about the tiny hole where the gas comes through..(the tiny hole found inside the banjo bolt..after taking off the service bolt ) I just discoverd that the whole needs to be aligned perfectly in order that the fuel does not flow out the sides of the bolt...dont know how the heck i am going to align it correctly before i tighten it. Also, I dont really understand what it means to tighten the banjo bolt to " 16ft./lbs " . I am very worried i might mess things up...since i have to screw the bolt back..how can i allign the hole in the correct position and screw it on all at the same time ? Thanks again K. Quote:

Re: Please advice on how to replace FUEL FILTER for Civic 90
What I did was marked the top of the bolt with a light colored marker where the hole was and then I tightened it accordingly. Not too tight. 16ft./lbs. isn't that much...

Re3:Please advice on how to replace FUEL FILTER for Civic 90
thanks for the prompt response..
Yes i did plan to mark the bolt too but the thing is how do you determine exactly how tight i need to tighten it..do you mean you used nothing else other than just marking the top of bolt where the hole is ? did you get it perfectly alligned the first time out ? Thanks K. It seems that with a tiny hole like that...one would be trying all day long to allign it... Quote:
