Re: Morgan Freeman on racism
Freeman is right! We can't get around it history is history and shouldn't be black or white! Racism will never go away as long as we look at the color of each others skin. I think the US and the world will be a lot better place once we can put our petty differences aside and just be human beings!

Re: Morgan Freeman on racism
I think the most important thing he touched on was that we stop talking about it as an issue. As long as it remains engrained in peoples minds that it is in fact a problem, it will continue to be a problem. There has to come a point where everyone, blacks, whites, asians, native americans, what have you, stop defining themselves as "different" in any way from those of other skin colors. We don't do that for eye color, or hair color, there's no reason to do it for skin color.

Re: Morgan Freeman on racism
If we lived in a world without racism I would agree with Freemen. I wish we didn't need to have a black history month, but we do, that history still isn't incoperated with normal history.
Also not talking about racism makes it go away? yes ignoring problems always makes them go away. I think awareness of a problem is the first step to adressing it. All the progress we've made with AIDs and civil rights was not made by ignoring problems exist. I'm in favor of adressing REAL problems, because of all the false claims of racism people ignore that REAL racism still exists. I see where hes coming from but...its going to be a long time before we can acutly live that way. |

My impression of Morgan's "stop talking about it" statement was more to do with the perpetual talk we hear of everyones racial make up as though that were the most important thing that defines a person.

Re: Morgan Freeman on racism
Morgan Freeman is a great actor and man of wisdom. He raises good points but it sounds idealistic to me. We can stop talking about it but something will always be there as a reminder. But this country has come a long ways compared to others.
Speaking of race or racial makeup, I have not seen a single application for employment or various govermental forms from municipal to Federal level that doesn't ask you about your race which seems like an in your face constant reminder. So where do we start?

Then watch what happens. The populace might decide that it was game on for a return of barely concealed and even outright racial preferences and discrimination. Or society might begin to drop the massively gimped labeling system it has put upon itself. Or somewhere in between or something else entirely. To approach a problem this large with radical changes is difficult and dangerous, however it may be the only way to pick apart the truly twisted way society and individuals look at America.
