Need to replace the heated upstream OS2 sensor on 02 Grand Caravan 3.8 V6. Does anyone know the way to replace it? How to get to it without taking the damn car apart? I know where it is located but to get to it is a pain from either under the car or from the hood.

Re: Upstream Oxygen Sensor replacement for 02 Grand Caravan
Can anyone tell me if I need a special tool to remove the O2 sensor from my 1999 3.3 liter? It is hard to reach, even from underneath, and not much room for a wrench.

there's a socket called an o2 sensor socket, it goes on the o2 sensor and you can turn it with a ratchet

Re: Upstream Oxygen Sensor replacement for 02 Grand Caravan
Remove the intake manifold, then oxygen sensor replacement is no brainer job.
Taking out the intake manifold took me about 3 hours, which is not that bad considering you can change the rear spark plugs at the same time. Mike |

Re: Upstream Oxygen Sensor replacement for 02 Grand Caravan
I'm not sure if this helps, but on my '99 3.8 Grand Caravan, the upstream one is located on the upper side of the exhaust down pipe in a very tough area to get to. A special OFFSET O2 sensor socket was required which did the job in minutes. Nothing had to be removed to gain access. Autozone has it.
A BIG HINT: when reinstalling, tie a string to the O2 sensor's wires and thread the string up and around the engine and back down. Use this string to pull the wires up and vertical, so they will not interfere with the threading and tightening of the new one. Because you will be working with only one hand, the wires would otherwise get in the way big time. |
