94 Camry will not start

My 94 Camry (4 cyl, 106,000 miles) refuses to start. It cranks over. I removed out flow line on fuel filter and when cranked fuel shot up. I have pulled plugs and cked for spark . . . seems strong. Thought maybe engine was flooded but plugs were dry. I did notice a gas smell for about a week before the engine would not start but could not locate any leaks. There is no "engine ck Light" on. I think it is a fuel delivery problem . . . how else could I ck? Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated before I it towed in!!!!

Re: 94 Camry will not start

Hello,
You said it has spark and the Fuel system has pressure but maybe the injectors are not firing. Try spraying some starting fluid into the Throttle body. Then if it fires you'll know for sure that you have a fuel issue.

Re: 94 Camry will not start

recently read a thread about a common problem with coolant temperature sensors that caused the engine to die idling warm accompanied by fuel odor - IOW they worked cold, but not hot.
If you've got fuel and spark - try taking a reading on the coolant temperature sensor - should be the center sensor at the water outlet near the distributor. You should be able to get the resistance figures from a manual. Just a guess, but could help.

Re: Re: 94 Camry will not start

My daughters '90 Camry had this problem. And it was worse when the engine was warm or even partially warmed up. The temperature sensor was telling the computer it was colder than it really was and setting up too rich of a fuel/air mixture.

Thanks for everyones assistance. I did try readings on coolant sensor . . ok. Out of fustration I had to have it towed in. After diagnostic testing, it turned out to need a total distributor replacement . . . still hurting from the $675 expense.
