Question 2005/2006 Accents

Looking at potentially purchasing a 2005 0r 2006 Accent Hatchback which I will drive for one year and then move it on to a child who wil lbe starting college. Any thoughts on this versus say an Aveo, Cobalt, Elentra....

2006 is real nice but so is the Civic which starts at $14K base model which has quite a few bells and whistles. The Elantra is a nice car, no doubt, but if I was going for the Elantra I'd have to consider the Sonata which is rated great by everyone. If you are like me, you want an environmentally clean car which the 2006 accent claims to be. I understand prior models gave off more particulates. I believe that no man/woman/child needs a Hummer to go to Wal-Mart. I've had my Accent for 6 years and it has not been without problems but most have been minor. The most annoying feature is the EMS light which goes on at the drop of a hat. Tracking down the problem is a real PIA. All new cars share this problem from BMW to Dodge to Hyundai. If you live in an environmentally unfriendly state like FLA, you can actually by dummy oxygen sensors that merely plug in and mimic the real deal. If your thinking hatchback then the Elantra GT is sweet but at $17,000, there are a lot of cars out there. The GLS is about $14,000 Anyway - best of luck. I'd steer clear of the Aveo and Chevy with the Chinese engines. They may be good but I doubt it. The jury is out. All the best.
