Dutch door shock or strut help needed

When I got home last night, my Wife (AKA "El Destructo"), advised me she had "broken" the van. She went to close the top dutch door, and since she is short, had jumped up and grabbed one corner. That put one of the shock things in a bind. I guess she then proceeded to swing on the door like a drunken monkey in heat, and bent the rod. When I looked at it, one end of the right shock had detached at the ball joint, and the shock was hanging out the back of the van. I took the damaged shock loose at the other end, but there were two wires going to the shock. I was able to close the door, but how do I unhook those two wires? It was dark, and I was tired, so I didn't worry about it too much last night. Do the wires unplug somewhere? I'll try to straighten the rod if I can, or replace it, but first I need to remove it from the van. Thanks in advance for any advice.
P.S. I really have a very, very good Wife.
