Descreet modz needed...

I race at a circle track that has unbeatable hondas killing the rest of the field, and would like to get any pointers on how to find a few more ponies, without being obvious. Where on a strict "stock" rule, but how does one compete with a 16 valve, that weighs half you do?

I drive a 97 2.2, 4 spd manual, pritty much stock right now as Im building it for next season.

I did look at the performance topic, but things like a stock cam from one motor to another builds more power... I need a clearer indication as to what I realy need.

Now I know that I can re-map my ignition and fuel timing with a programmer, Ive never tryed it yet, but if it makes even 8-15hp,I will be more than happy to buy a programmer and learn.

Any suspention/drivetrain tips I think will help aswell.

So Im only looking for quick pointers, thankx. I diddnt start my first topic thread just to be told to search for what I might not be able to do as Im suppost to visually remain "stock" to qualify for every race weekend and dont need to learn the hard way, and besides, it gives you all something different to think about for a bit. To make a car fast, but still "look stock", kinda like a sleeper, but unconscious, lol.

One more question while im here...

I drive a 94 Cav RS 3.1, and my steering rack popped on the passanger side end cap, and isnt repairable... well the question is whats the average cost used for a rack?

Thankx

So you want to find ways to make your car not stock, yet still race in a stock race? Isn't that considered cheating? The whole point in a stock car is to keep it stock. As soon as you put a bigger cam, add a cold air intake, etc, it's no longer stock.

Unfortunately the Cavalier wasn't made to compete with the faster/lighter/more powerful riceburners.

Re: Descreet modz needed...

I have an idea sell that 97 and buy a newer one with an ecotec or 2.4L. That 2200 with all of its 115hp is obviously going to lose. And yea i think once you touch the motor IE Exhaust cam intake its no longer stock but who knows maybe im just a moron.

This is gonna spark an argument. I can't wait. Even though I said it, it will still spark one.

Speed kills drive domestics.

Anyway, Yeah My Honda is 160 horsepower stock, and 2300 lbs stock. Not to mention VTEC, DOHC, and green.... I would say if you want to compete, not even Z cars compete with a stock B16 or stock K20 which is equipped in most Hondas that would beat you. I would recomend getting a 2.3 HO, that should beat everything stock for stock except for the GSR Integras...

2.3 HO = 180 HP
W41 = 190HP and race prepped.

Yeah I would have to agree, that 2200 is absolutely worthless for racing. If you really want to take it seriously and want to have a Cavalier, get one with an ecotec. If you dont mind what kind, get a turbo DSM. 210 hp stock and some are AWD. If you are racing a stock class, then leave it stock, dont be a cheap piece of shit and mod it.

Well, thankx all. I know that ricers kill domestics, this is the reason why im doing this, to see if I can make a chev eat rice.

I diddnt get to define what I ment about stock... but some of you cought my drift. I needed to know what motor to use (2.3HO/2.4ECO) and some advice on how to tweek it. If it was OEM in a cav, at any time, then its comsiddered stock. I cant use any turbo motors... lol, like a cav came with a turbo stock, lol.

As for arguments, I dont go outta my way to start one. I just wanted to ask a simple question without being flammed thor06, and cdru, FYI, theres no race track in ontario that plays fair. Just like life aint fair, neither is smalltrack racing. And besides, it aint cheating unless you get cought.

Oh, and I did see a sunfire win this years points race at peterboroughspeedway.com so it is possable. (Rob Kerr #35 mini stock) I thought comming here might help me figure out what options I have.

ImSoYesterday, thankx for the specs, anymore will help.

Are there any syspention parts I can skam from a older cav, like a 93, to stiffen the ride?
