Finally Took My Vr-4 To The Track
i went to the track and just ran my car twice. since i don't know how to launch or didn't even try to the first time i ran a 15 flat at 97.91 with a 1.0941 reaction time. i didn't shift at redline i shifted like at 5500 rpms. i know it sucks but it was my first time ever racing at the track so keep that in mind. the second time i had an even worse reaction time it was a 1.1341 but ran a 14.5185 at 100.45 mph. shifting at 6400 rpms. so yeah what do yall think? oh yeah it has a borla cat-back intake and greddy bov. the exhaust has a major leak though.

Re: Finally Took My Vr-4 To The Track
go practice launching and your shifting in a desolate area or something like that... but other than that I guess it's decent for a first time... I can't say anything becuase I've never raced at a track either though, but you should be cuttin' low 14s/high 13s with that VR4

and yet when someone in an SRT-4 or Cobalt SS smokes a VR-4 everyone calls BS!
launching is not rocket science, hold the clutch down, rev to like 4000, 5000 rpms, then let the clutch peddle snapp up. booom your off. and there is no excuse for shifting at 5500 rpms! WTF is that? dosent you car have a redline drawn on the tack? oh and racing at a track is the same crap as racing on the street, clutch in, rev wait for green clutch out, gas, redline, clutch in, snap shifter to 2nd, clutch out, redline, clutch in snap shifter into 3rd, clutch out, finish, clutch in, neutral, clutch out, brakes, stop, open door, get out, do the happy dance, get in, burn out! see? its easy. no print that and write it 100 times on the blackboard.

wow you actually took time out to write all this stuff that i already know good job. launching a awd is harder than launching a fwd i take it you have an sl. try to launch an awd and not have it bog for the first time. i already had a sl and it was easier to launch that 3k than my vr-4.

Re: Finally Took My Vr-4 To The Track
actually launching the vr4 is easier than launching the fwd.
rev the engine to 6000rpms and drop the clutch. thats as easy as it gets!! musashi was telling you the truth! if you claim to know everything he said, then why do you worry about bogging? there is no bogging unless your dropping the clutch at like 3500rpms do not drop the clutch lesss than 4500rpms and you should do ok next time. a 6000 rpm drop is about the best launch you can get. thats if you wanna risk a little tranny beating

Re: Re: Finally Took My Vr-4 To The Track
that's what i don't want i just got the car like 2 months ago i rather drop money on making it fast than breaking something. 6k is a lil hard do you think. i was going to do it at 3500 but oh well. i'm going again tomorrow and i'll post up my new times.

Re: Finally Took My Vr-4 To The Track
at those low rpms you have to slip the clutch, practice a couple times on the street and try and get the hang of it.
but unless your tranny is near death, try launching a couple rpms higher. cool read for you if you havn't seen it already Putting the power to the pavement is the name of the acceleration game. The Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 has 320 hp, much less than the Jag and Lightning, and the same power rating as the Mustang Cobra. So what gives the Mitsubishi the advantage over them? Traction. This is the only all-wheel-drive car in this test. That means no wheelspin. Launching the Mitsubishi is so simple, it's like flying into outer space - even a monkey can do it. Just tach up the DOHC twin-turbocharged V6 up near its 6000 rpm power peak and drop that clutch. Granted, this isn't the best thing for the car's durability, but it sure gets this 2+2 off the line like a slingshot. All four 18-in. tires dig in, the 3000GT squats like Mike Piazza, and you are gone. Don't expect any rubber when you throw gears, either. Tire slip in this car is harder to come by than a date with Pamela Anderson. Shifter action and clutch takeup could be a bit smoother, so quick gear changes aren't easy. But the V6's surprising amount of low-end torque really gets the heavy Mitsubishi going. And the motor pulls right up to its 7000 rpm redline. One thing missing from the Mitsubishi's stellar performance: the right sounds. Its hair dryer exhaust note just doesn't cut it. Test Summary: Mitsubishi 3000GT Base price: $44,600, Price as tested: $45,140 Engine: 3.0L/181.0 CID DOHC 24v twin turbo V6 HP: 320 @ 6000 rpm, Torque: 315 ft.-lb. @ 2500 rpm Trans: 6M, Drivetrain: front engine/awd Final drive: 3.87:1 w/center viscous coupling Curb weight: 3737 lb, Weight/HP ratio: 11.7 Horsepower/liter: 106.7, Tires: 245/40ZR18 Acceleration: 0-30 mph: 1.70 sec. 0-60 mph: 5.00 sec. 1/4 mile: 13.44 sec. @ 101.79 mph

but he's saying it's harder to launch without taking 3 years of your tranny's life. he doesnt want ot brake things. I've had good luck slipping the clutch around 4,500 - 5,000rpm's. it spools the turbos very quick while you slip it and you're off. took me a long time to be able to launch it with a slip.

Actually I have driven VR-4 and have launched them with much ease. As far as killing your car, well thats why I said launch it from 4500-5000 rpms. It can take it, now 6K drop.....thats when you risk alot of damage but 4500 is no problem.
And dude dont get deffensive, I take care of all my 3S boys! Im just looking out for ya man, rather get a little heat from me them from some jerks driving some other line of car and trashing on your driving and stuff. At least here we keep it in the family.

Re: Finally Took My Vr-4 To The Track
I take mine to about 5 grand and slip it fairly fast, hold straight and watch the tach, second it gets to 7 off the gas and hit the clutch and go to 2nd and fly off the clutch and back on the gas same time repeat as necessary.
I will be honest man I dont care what they say but I feel the AWD is harder (if you own it and are responsible with money) because you have that mental block on tearing up your transfer case. |
