97 Rav4 A/C Question

Hi all. Well after 3 mos A/C died again after changing the compressor this time with different symptoms. Clutch does not engage, steady AC light at switch. Blower works. First thing I tried to do is find the fuse for the compressor,no luck! Haynes manual is useless. So if anyone here has any ideas to approach this problem, pls do. Thanks in advance.

Re: 97 Rav4 A/C Question

Hello,

I just wanted to hear more about your problem, although I can't really help. I just got a 97 Rav 4 with only 42000 miles on it. The car seems fine, but the A/C, even after recharging, is only cool, and not cold. Is this a common problem? How much, if I may ask, did the compressor run?

Re: 97 Rav4 A/C Question

I had a similar problem with my Corolla. I just bought a 1999 Corolla, and the A/C wasn't working. I tried to put freon in it, but nothing. The compressor wasn't clicking on, so I checked the wires that connect to the compressor, and BINGO the wires were frayed. I spliced them together, and the car runs ice cold. Check the wires that connect to the compressor, and make sure they are not frayed. If so, splice them and reconnect to compressor. Good Luck!
