no tail lights

my friend has a 2003 jetta tdi and his tail lights went from dim to none he still has back up lights and turn signals but no tail lights the bulbs seem to be fine plus they all went at the same time can some one please help

Sounds like the fuse. Did he put different bulbs in?

he took it to v-dub and they said it was the switch on the brake pedal which doesnt make sence but hey

I had forgotten, there was a problem that almost made a recall. My car needed that switch when it was only 3 days old. I'm sorry, I should have mentioned that.

I am having the same problem, but my question is where is the switch located, so I can take a look and replace it.
