Hi all,
I will not pressure but I’m in a hurry for replies as to what this little blue box is. The hurry comes as today going out to work I stopped at the mail box, then when I got back to my car thick smoke was coming from under the instrument panel, I removed all and to my surprise this blue thing had a burn mark and a burn smell. Later after taking pictures I tried to remove the plugs and they are a bit wet. I knew before that I needed to replace my heater core so I know were the wet comes from. The Hurry now is this blue thing. By the way, risking fire the car runs fine and the AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT was blinking when this happened. Below are the pictures.

Reading in the Haynes, this MAY be the electronic diagnostic monitor for the SRS. It supplies current to the airbag if battery power is cut off in a collision. It also checks the system on every startup causing the airbag light to go on, then off (if SRS working properly). It says run to the dealer. Would I? Dunno - it also shows how to disconnect/pull the steering wheel and passenger airbag modules.

Re: PCM or SRS (AIRBAG) MODULE?
So, I can disconnect that thing from the system and drive safely to my dealer for them to fix that piece of hardware?
Also found an escort airbag control module recall for this, I think I took action too late. But at least I prevented the fire. http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...callsearch.cfm Thanks for saying that it is not the PCM
