locked out need help

Just bought a 94 metro that had a bad tranny. Fixed that and then started it up for first time. Put it in gear to see if everything turned(car was up on stands). Shut off and closed doors. The d##m thing has auto door locks Did not know this. Now I am locked out. Only 1 key. How can I get it opened? Tried a flat piece of straping but can't find anything in door that will unlock it. Maybe I haven't hit the right spot. Where should I try if that will work?

Re: locked out need help

I have a 95 so it may be slightly different but what I have done in the past is emulate what the pros do. Find something similar to a wedge shaped door stop and push it down between the window and the door skin. You should be able to get a big enough gap to get a look at the bars for the lock. Then it's just a matter of getting a hook on the right one and pulling it in the right direction and you're in. I did break one of the clips that hold the bar to the plate when I did it and had to take the door panel off to wire it back together. I think the clips are available through the HELP! parts line but I have never gotten around to actually fixing it, just left it wired. It's only come undone when I had the lock popped again.

Good Luck

I was able to get in after trying many different ways. Tried the door again. No go. Went to the hatch. Nadda. Went to the back pop out windows. After trying from the top to get the latch to pop open, gave up on that. Finally same window came from the bottom up and was able to hook the latch with my flat iron and pop it open. Then got a long rod and worked it to the door and after a little bit of trying was able to push the lock forward. I was in. Sheesh what a job that turned into.
