Re: popping noise in rear end of ss camaro 2000
What grease?
Should have been gear oil. Some good heavy stuff.

i put the factory 70w-140 and limited slip additive but like you said the rear end could probably have gone south. but is there anyway there could be slack in the axle due to the fact that it only does it when i turn? because it doesn't make a roaring sound it just feels loose and its like let me say it make a sound like a shock does when the bolts are loose but the shocks are not loose i was just using that to explain the sound. I feel stupid as hell cause i've been around cars all my life. I just restored a 68 ss from the ground up and this just baffles me, maybe i just don't like the sound of buying a new rear end.

Re: popping noise in rear end of ss camaro 2000
could be the center pin coming loose. those bolts like to break and if it broke at the wrong spot that thing can sling out and catch/catch/catch until it eventually wedges :o. might pop the thing back open and have a look. 70w-140? SAE 75W-90 Synthetic Lubricate GM P/N 12378261 or Equivalent Limited Slip Lubricate Additive GM P/N 1052358 or Equivalent. thats what the factory recommends.

Re: Re: Re: popping noise in rear end of ss camaro 2000
I left a wrench on the parking brake adjustment nut and started driving and heard it rubbing on the driveshaft. Scared the crap out of me. Someone called me and I forgot all about. So i would definetly say go take a good look.

Re: popping noise in rear end of ss camaro 2000
My 2000 Z28 has a Torsen posi not the old Auburn style, yours should be the same. Posi additive is not needed with the Torsen.
I used 1.5 bottles of Mobil1 75w-90 gear oil. *edit* FormulaLT1- DON"T ADVERTISE OTHER AUTOMOTIVE BASED FORUMS ON THIS SITE. Thank you John Last edited by FormulaLT1; 01-05-2006 at 12:04 PM. |
