amp keeps going into protect mode

ok so i just installed an amp n 10 inch sub in my 93 hatch. the problem is that whenever the car is running, the amp goes into protection mode after a couple of minutes. the amp runs fine when the car is off. i checked all my wiring and connections. anybody have any other ideas what can be causing it to go into protection mode? oh yea its a visonik amp thats supposedly 300 watts......yea i know its crap brand and i dont have a cash flow right now so please dont flame. i used a scosche 1400 watt amp wiring kit.....again i know crap brand. anyways can anybody help me?

does the amp get hot,THEN shut off, maybe you wired your sub at a impedence lower than the amp is stable at.

no i felt the amp after it shut off and it wasnt hot at all. the sub came with the amp so i dont think its an impendence problem.
