damn emissions testing

My girlfriend has a 1997 eagle talon tsi and it has repeatedly failed the emissions test ever since she have bought it. I've had some repairs done and the only thing that fails the emission is the obd reading. We've taken the emissions test at least 5 times and have failed every time. I just want to get rid of the damn thing because of all the trouble it's given us. I've heard about mitsubishi and eagle automobiles having problems with their obd resetting everytime they turn the car off. I've also been told to talk to a serviceman at a mitsubishi dealership and find out if there is a specific drive cycle that I need to do before I go back to the emissions place. Before I go to the dealership where they'll most likely try and get me to spend money I wanted to see if any of you guys were knowledgable about this problem or if any of you have had this problem before. If any of you have been through this before and know a specific drive cycle or have any suggestions for me I would be very appreciative.

Thanks-B

Why go through all that trouble when you can just give the inspector a little extra to pass you, that's what I always do.

Re: damn emissions testing

The drive cycles are impossible to complete. Unless you have about 100 miles of perfectly straight road with no traffic.

Some of the drive cycles involve turning off the car after completing the drive cycle. Uh, Duh, that's what resets the cycles in the first place. Also, according to the manual for emissions testing, the vehicle has to be turned off for the first part of the testing.

You have to take it to the Stealership and pay them some ungodly amount of money for them to "fudge" the test. They hook it up to a MUT-II tool (proprietory) and force the monitors to set, then they run the emissions without turning off the car. Sounds freakin' illegal to me.

I had it done 2 years ago and it cost me a little over $100. I only drive the Spyder about 2k miles now, so I am exempt. But last I heard, the dealership was charging around $200 to cheat the emissions test.
