Window Cables / Motor
'96 VW Jetta GLS 2.0, 5 Speed Man.
All 4 of my windows have crapped out... A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN JETTAS I've found. Hell, the moon roof works like a charm though. ![]() I know the motor on the driver window is the problem... cables arn't freyed or anything and I hear no motor when I hold down the button. I checked into it and $300 for a damn window motor! Junkyard seems the solution there. But the passanger and back passanger windows have freyed cables. I'm not sure about the back driver side window haven't checked it out. I figure for these windows it's the cables since well... obviously they're freyed like hell, and also I can hear the motor when I try to roll them up and down. Also, they will go down... but not up - at which I have to pull them up, quite constantly also, as they fall a few inches every x number of miles. Thus, after such a long explantiaon... Anyone know where I can get these cables online, I can't find them anywhere. And does anyone have any other solutions to these "COMMON" window problems in the Jetta. I HAVE TO GET ATLEAST TWO OR THREE OF THEM FIXED TO FALL OUT THE THE RANK OF GHETTO! ![]() I think I'm just gonna go to a junk yard and get new cables for 3 windows... but I wouldn't even know how to go about installing them. And I'm scared to pay for a window motor at a junk yard, cuz the odds are that it's not gonna work anyways cuz none of them seem to in any Jetta! I love my Jetta... but I would really love my Jetta if I could roll down the window at the McDonald's, rather than open the door, lol.

Re: Window Cables / Motor
I purchased a whole regulator assembly (with out motor) on ebay for preatty cheap (like $50 or so) that contain everything you need. These are easy to install just be carefull when you pull the plastic lining from inside of the door because it need to be there other wise your interior will get wet. Also DON'T LET THE window slam inside of the door when you release it from the old regulator or will be buying a new window. I used painters masking tape (blue stuff) to hold the window up in the door while I took out the old regulator and put in the new one. The blue masking tape won't hurt your paint.
Hope this helps!! |
