finding a '97ish tsi awd

i want a '97 (or near that year) tsi awd. but compared to eclipses there are NONE for sale. i got all the auto trader magazines, checked 150 mile range of my zip code at cars.com, and checked through weeks of craigslist ads... plus random online nonsense. almost nothing.

i've only found ONE that was awd (in the misc section of a truck auto trader...), but it was automatic AND costed as much as the comparable eclipse!@$

any recommendations for other places to look? should i go to dealers and tell them to keep their eye out and contact me when they find one? will they drive up the price when they see the kind of demand i have?

They are kinda getting hard to come by. You can check out ebay. They usually have them on there. Good luck with your search

You might need to broaden your searching area. I found mine from a dealer in Chicago, online, and I live in south Florida. I had it shipped down, and it wasn't really that expensive, and I had it within 5 days.

Where do you live? My girlfriend has one but the damn obd keeps failing the emissions test and it's driving us crazy. We live around Atlanta by the way.
If you want it and it's problems hit me back.

Well, Talons were only made until 97, so if you want the new style Talon, you only have one year to chose from. Do you specifically want a Talon or just want a cheap awd DSM? There are lots of 95-96 awd DSMs around. Check www.autotrader.com www.dsmtuners.com/classifieds/ www.cars.com www.carsoup.com and www.ebay.com.

Just to clear this up, Production of Talon was stoped in 97 but there are 1998 model talons out there also.

yours is a 97? how much did it cost and how much was the cost of shipping around? did you have to pay tax for buying from a dealer even though it's in a different state? you weren't worried about not being able to inspect the car yourself in case it might be a lemon?

you mean that the ones they made in (and for) 1997 were called the '98 model?

No way? I've never seen any, were only a few made?

No, I have a 98. Paid ~$14k for the car, and ~$600 to ship down. I don't really remember if I had to pay taxes. The dealer promised that it was in perfect working condition and gave a warentee on it.

Re: finding a '97ish tsi awd

You should look at 95s and 96s as well. Especially if you are considering a body kit or want to do an Eclipse conversion for cheap. This 95 Tsi AWD 5spd cost me $10,000 Canadian four years ago with 135,000 kms, new rubber, chromed and rebuilt 14b turbo, not one dent or scratch and some brand new Sparco seats thrown in the deal! Not one thing ended up being wrong with the car. I haven't even noticed any wear on the clutch yet. Where abouts do you live? I could keep my eye out for a good deal for you.

Re: finding a '97ish tsi awd

Also you should be a little more willing to travel. It'll be a hell of a lot easier if you are willing to take a day to go get the car. 150 miles at 60 mph average is only 2 and a half hours away. Personally, I dont have a problem traveling 6 hours each way for a car.
