There's the traditional i/h/e which you have and honestly, for much more power above that...without any sort of forced induction it'll be pretty much the same power. I think the 420a motor's can barely even see 200hrspwr. Good luck though!

The 420a motor is in the N/A mitsubishi eclipse, it has never been in the neon!

Re: 05 Neon Upgrades

The '05 2.0l SOHC has 9.3:1 compression vs earlier years with 9.8:1. This makes it a good candidate for about 6-8 psi of boost without doing a lot of engine mods.
Expect 180-200 hp.

The dohc in the neon is basically a 420a just with the head flipped around backwards. The blocks are exactly the same as the nt eclipse and the dohc neon. The pistons are the same and some other minor crap too. It's just Mitsu decided to call theirs the 420a when Crysler decided to call it the D4RE or some crap like that. Either way you look at it...they are the same motor with just the head being flipped. I'm not too sure about the engine setup in the newer neons but definitely in the 95-99's nt eclipses and dohc neon's the engines are practically the same shit

Actually the 420a is an ECC Chrysler 2.0 DOHC, with a reversed (intake/exhaust) head, not the other way around. Just clarifying for those who do not know. Mitsubishi took Chryslers and Lamborghini's design and used it, not the other way around.

I know they are similiar, but about the only thing that will interchange are the pistons. You have to be careful about saying the 420a is a neon engine, because you will get all kinds of questions about will this fit and can I out a 420a engine in my neon, and on and on...I don't know why there is a big deal about the eclsipse engine, not saying you are, but there seems to be some big misconception that the eclispe engine is better than the neon. Maybe it's because of the Fast & the Furious movie, who knows!

Hmm makes sense. There is a lot of hype in the dsm world about the 420a(mainly about how much it sucks). I've seen lots of videos and crap of neons/nt eclipses racing and the neon always seems to pull a small amount so I'm assuming either the neon engine is a little superior or more accepting to bolt ons. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing superior about the 420a! But the 4g63...
