Hi again,
My knowledge is limited with cars. Thus, I am wondering if this is true. I will be replacing my fuel filter on my 2002 grandprix gtp. To do that I know that I need to relief the fuel pressure. I surfed on the internet and found a posting where someone removed the fuel pump fuse and let the engine run until it shutted off to relief the pressure. Is this accurate and is it okay? Secondly, I am going to replace my spark plugs too. At 60,000 miles can I get by without replacing the wires? Thanks again. |

Re: fuel filter
Pulling the fuel pump fuse works. Also, pressure can be discharged at the fuel pressure regulator Schrader valve. See link below:
http://www.pfyc.com/supportfiles/gasfilter/ Although it is recommended to change the wires out even at 60K miles it is not absolutely necessary. The OEM wires are normally good for at least 100K miles.

At the risk of having the EPA down on my A _ _ I just replaced the fuel filter on my GTP at 135,000.
I did not pull the fuse or release the pressure at the fuel rail but just broke the nuts loose and captured the fuel into a small bowl. The amount was not really very much. I would wear googles doing this as a precaution however, and put out your stoogie or cigarette. |
