Best Xmas Gift EVAR.....for me at least

This has to be my best xmas gift yet....unless i get my first car for xmas lol.....but, thats not for a while.....anyway, well...here it is.

My Fan controller, left to right: Voltage gauge to front 120mm fan; left swtich is to control fan speed; sound pressure gauge; and CPU temperature gauge

The Internals

After earning some good grades, my dad finally said yes. I know I've always had some addictions to the computer (games etc), and not so good grades also led to the answer "no." But putting that all back, my dad finally said yes. so im sooo happy. My friend custom designed it, then we ordered the parts and my friend assembled it.

FOr those who want to know what it's made of:

Chassis: CoolerMaster Centurion 532 aluminum Mid-Tower ATX case, came with a 430 watt power supply unit
Motherboard: ASUS A8N-SLI deluxe ATX motherboard
CPU (the best part): AMD64 4000+ Athlon (MAD FAST)
RAM: dual channel mushkin 2 gig of ram
HD: Western Digital Raptor SATA 120 GB 7200RPM and a secondary Western Digital IDE 120 GB
GPU (the other best part): eVGA GeForce 6800GS 256MB SLi Ready PCI Express 16x, I'm saving up for another so I can run an SLi (system where it can run two videocards as one unit) so I can have 512 MB of video memory

Here's my video card (the one on the left) next to my other video card that was bought after market and was in my other PC

This thing is mad fast, so fast I don't even see the Windows load screen pop up on startup, and everything is click on demand. It's amazing lol.

Oh yea, I think I might get some cool cathodes to put in there, maybe a UV cathode (like a neon or florescent light, similar design but different way of lighting) and an LED aluminum fan for the back...Still gotta see if I have the mone

Sleeve or put some loom on those power cords too, and get some rounded cables.

Re: Best Xmas Gift EVAR.....for me at least

those arent raptor drives, firstly raptors spin at 10,000rpms, but thats still a good drive.

dont mod the hell out of it with lights, add that second video card, more ram, raid the drives with two real raptors, install water cooling

Re: Best Xmas Gift EVAR.....for me at least

Very nice, that m/b and CPU would be very cool, especialy with 2gig of ram.
However your about half a terabyte short in HDD Space.
Im pushing over a 1/3 of a terrabyte across 3 drives and my machine is a good 3 years old.

And running two two graphics cards together, dosn't work to double thier performance, you would be better buying a second 512mb card, and either selling the 256mb card, or useing it to run a 2nd monitor.

with SLI, you are basically doubling up proc's. those 6800 i beleive are dual GPU, that means that you will have a quad GPU video card, thats all you basically get. still some major gameplay action goin on

They're single GPU.

Quadros are single GPU too (you actually used to be able to softmod the old GeForces into Quadros, saves a couple hundred bucks). They make 6600's and 6800's in dual GPU, but those are few and far between and the prices are so outrageous that you might as well go dual card.
