Question Ahh the smell of gas on a cold morning

Newbie here, needing a little help. When it is cold and only when it is cold my car fills with the lovely smell of gas. The smell increase when the heater or defrost is active. Also, there is not any gas leaking and I have not noticed a change in my gas milage. Anyone have any ideas what might be the cause?

Re: Ahh the smell of gas on a cold morning

Welcome to AF! I would lift the hood on a cold morning and have someone crank the engine for you and check for leaks. This sounds like you may have a bad connection that only leaks when the engine is cold. If you can smell raw fuel then there has to be a leak somewhere especially if the car starts and runs properly. It is possible that the leak is at the fuel pressure regulator but check all the connections. If you find a leaking connection have it repaired immediately since a fire could occur.

Re: Ahh the smell of gas on a cold morning

I have a quick question regarding the fuel pressure regulators...I have a 2002 but on the 1999's and 2000's I noticed the regulator is in front of the valve cover near the radiator. Where did they move to on the 2002's? Mine is not in that spot nor are any of the other 2002's and on that I have seen.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Jeremy, the FPR is located on the driver's side of the engine, even bank cylinders fuel injector rail right next to the throttle body and intake manifold.
