94 SHO surging ????

94 Taurus SHO Runs OK when cold no surging when throttle is applied. once it warms a little and in neutral holding the throttle open motor will surge. Error code 176 O2 sensor fault lean bank 2
Driving it hesitates sputters ect.
I've checked MAF, voltage readings seem right, tps ohm readings are good. Pressure on the fuel rail is at 38 psi, Changed fuel filter anyway.
What is next to check?? Its not a idle problem or I'd play with the Idle solenoid. The car also has new Cats installed.

Possible Causes:

-- Fuel injectors.

-- HO2S.

-- Secondary Air Injection (AIR) system.

-- PCV/Hose.

-- Vacuum.

-- CANP.

-- MAP sensor.

-- Electronic Ignition Coil Failure.

l Key off.

l Remove the PCV valve from the valve cover. Inspect both rocker cover hole and PCV for damage, sludge build up, blockage and movement of valve plunger. Service as necessary.

l Run Key On Engine Off (KOEO) and Key On Engine Running (KOER) Self-Tests.

l Address any continuous ignition DTCs before servicing KOER DTCs.

NOTE:
For a No Start, GO directly to «H2».

l Are any of the above DTCs present in KOER Self-Test?

Yes
REINSTALL PCV valve. GO to «H2».

No
For Continuous Memory DTCs 139, 144, 171, 176,177
GO to «H2»
AllOthers:
CHANGE engine oil and filter. REINSTALL PCV valve. DRIVE vehicle 5 miles/55mph. RERUN «Quick Test».

Re: 94 SHO surging ????

If you have a scanner for the car, around $30 or so, you can run a cylinder balance test also, it'll check for weak cylinders, easy to do, fuel psi's are around 28-33 koer, 30-45 koeo

Re: 94 SHO surging ????

Check the coolant temperature sensor, one that's out of range will cause the PCM to alter the air/fuel ratio. Also, run a bottle of fuel injector cleaner through the system for 100 miles or so. See if that helps.

To avoid confusion, your SHO has a MAF sensor so you won't have a MAP sensor as listed from the service manual.

A common problem with the V-6 SHO engines is for the spark plug well seals to leak. This will lead to a misfire rather than a lean condition when warm, but it might be worth checking anyway.

Re: 94 SHO surging ????

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. It is starting to run a little better could be the injector cleaner?? Could even of been a fuel quality problem, it did happen a day after adding fuel.(that isn't all gone yet but I added some to dilute what is in it.
Rod, unfortunately the spark plug wells do leak..... That I understand is a B**ch to change out those gaskets.

Well, that's relative. I don't think the plug well seals are all that bad to replace, but I enjoy working on cars. Takes about 2-3 hours start to finish if you are efficent. Well worth the time.
