oil/synthetic

heres my question its probably a stupid one but its something that ive been wanting to know. why shouldnt you use a synthetic oil in a high milage engine? why does the milage make a difference?

synthetic oil can make its way past gaskets and seals that regular oil cant. people say it makes leaks which is wrong, it finds spots that it can leak out of that are already there. as far as internals go it isnt likely but its possible it can squeak past valve seals and such and make it smoke on startup and stuff. mechanically it wouldnt be bad for the engine, its slicker and a lot more durable than regular oil. the only thing you can do is try it out and see how it works. if its not leaking oil now and youve done a good job on maintenance on it then i wouldnt expect any problems.

I switched mine over to mobil 1 at 53K miles... But i first ran some sea foam through the crank case to clean out any crap and oh boy did i get chunks of crap out. Now it has only seen mobil 1 since then and no problems from the 53K to the 58K where she sits at right now. I noticed a little bit of reduction on valve train noise i had when it was cold out.

Explain this process of sea foam to me. It sounds like it really helps the engine. I'm curious.

A how-to can be read here Sea foam sales. You should be able to pick this up at any local parts supplier like advance auto, pepboys, etc. Don't pour it through the TB, use a vac line.

yesterday i tried the seafoam i didnt put any in the crankcase but i did put some in the gas tank an let some get sucked up throught vacum lines let it sit for like 10 mins or so started it up ( man they are not kiddn about the white smoke trust me make sure your outside) but anyhow my car had this very slight miss not enought to make an error code but enought to annoy me so far its gone but ive only driven about 30 miles since i used the stuff but so far its well worth the little money it costs i paid 5.44$ at advanced auto for 16oz can just put half in the tank an the rest through the vacume lines. i forget who mentioned it but thanks for mentioning it i think this stuff really works

the misfire may be due to a fouled plug. that seafoam will murder carbon on contact and when you use it in the intake it all goes through the cylinders. some sticks to the plugs and gives you a misfire. if the plugs are fairly new, pull the plugs and clean em up. you should run some thru the crankcase on the LAST 500mi or so of your next oil change. i do that every 3rd oil change and the dipstick on my s-10 is clean not to mention the oil.
