Re: ignition switch
Hi, RE Your ignition switch problem, What switch? The electrical switch, If so, You have to drop the column down so it rests on the seat to access the switch, held on by 2 screws, If its the key switch/lock tumbler, the wheel has to come off, GOOD LUCK....Clay...

Re: ignition switch
Hey if you do have to pull the steering wheel off, you can put up a deposit and borrow a steering wheel puller tool to do it (you get your deposit back when you return it). Anyway, let me know how it goes, I am buying an old Aerostar tomorrow with the same problem and would like tips on fixing it...

Re: ignition switch
I replaced my tumbler and did not have to pull off the steering wheel. I replaced the shifter tube and rod and while in there I replaced the tumbler. I would not of have to drop the steering column had I just replaced the tumbler. Just take off the plastic around the steering column starting with the knee board, the bottom piece from the column and then use a screwdriver to pop off the chrome key grip and the top plastick comes off. Here is a picture of it....
