Multiple Problems (noises when driving)

Hello,
I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE with the 3400 motor. I have had several problems with the car, but my wife and I like the car and do not want to get rid of it. Our first problem is with a noise that seems to come from the bottom of the vehicle near the drivers side tire. It gets louder as you drive at higher speeds, but is not consistent. I have lifted the car in the air and it seems like it may be coming from the transaxles or in the transmission. Has anyone had a similar problem?

The second problem is with my ABS lights. They have now permanently come on, but there was no signs of brake problems. My ABS does not work now and my traction control is turned off at all times. I have no idea on what could be wrong here.

The third problem is with my engine light. I have taken this into an Autoparts store to read the code and it reads that it has either a faulty or leaking canister perge. Does anyone know where that is or what I can do to fix it.

If anyone could help me I would be greatful.

Thank YOU.

What from what you are describing from the noise and the abs light, it sounds as if one of your wheel bearings have gone bad, this will cause either a humming or thumping noise while driving especially at higher speeds. Also when your wheel bearing goes bad, your ABS light will go on as well.

I'm not familiar with the code you are recieving, hopefully someone else can help out with that

Re: Multiple Problems (noises when driving)

As grfnkl said, I would concure on the bearing/hubs being bad. Its a roaring sound that progressively gets louder, and when you turn it stops? right? Typical GA problem.
Id suggest replacing both at the same time. The bad bearings will throw the ABS and Trak off lights.

You hav the other code for the third prob? It would help.

Yes, there is a humming noise when I am driving and it will give a thumping sound here and there. When I turn the sound goes away if I am turning left, but if I go right it makes a louder sound, somewhat of a grinding noise.

Thanks for the information, I appreicate it.

When I turn left it stops, but when I turn right a grinding noise gets worse. But this only happens at lower speeds. I can get the code for the third problem when I find the paperwork.

Thank you for your help, I appreciate it.
