just a few questions on performance mods/what to do next

ok i have an ebay intake, chikara header and a 2.5 inch exhaust on the z6. my friend got an aem intake on his eclipse...and it was a VERY noticeable increase. would it be worth the money for me to get a better intake, or filter? i want to get some more power out of my engine...i was thinking either obx or skunk2 manifold..suggestions? and a camshaft..comp or crane? underdrive pulley? worth it if i dont even have a/c or power steering..? and last but not least port and polish...noticeable gains? feedback please...thanks

If you're gonna get a new intake, just get the filter and put it on your ebay pipe. Those ebay filters are crap, so i would just replace it with a k&n or something. You'll save yourself a lot of money this way.

Unless you're going to get a cam for sure, don't get the new intake manifold. Don't even get it if you get a "stage 1" cam either. Pretty much the same with the P&P. You'll lose power if you don't have something to move that newly available air (like an aftermarket camshaft). And I agree completely with both of them ^

Just get a Zex kit or turbo kit, fuck this 3 horsepower here 8 horspower there. In your case a zex kit will be the best choose.

I say save up $500 for a junkyard turbo setup. Probably most bang for your buck.

Re: just a few questions on performance mods/what to do next

the reason the eclipse had such an improvement is that the are so choked( he might have also removed the maf. which isnt good but it is the main restiction.) but for your car i would try to get a y8 manifold, a regrind ( but i dont know who does vtec grinds) then get good tires and a good clutch and fly wheel. people seem to have good results with xtd clutches and you can get a stage 3 and 9 pound flywheel for around $250. now you are ready for the turbo kit

Am I missing something??? I have not heard of a Z6 honda??? Sounds like you need to meet up with a reputable tuner or a knowledgable friend to help you out. There are about 1 million combinations for what you can do so you really need a plan for your build, how much power are you looking for down the road??? Turbo? Nitrous?, SC, All motor?? make sure all your mods complement each other well other wise you will just be another "ricer", good luck.

The z6 (d16z6) is from a '92-'95 Si and EX, as well as the '93-'95 del sol Si's.

Re: just a few questions on performance mods/what to do next

Is the eclipe turbo or na. If it's turbo then any mod you make it's 3 times the hp gain againt n/a. Try Delta Cams they do regrind and they're pretty cheap if you have cores. And yes a turbo setup is the best bang for your but do your research first especially with fuel + engine management.

Re: just a few questions on performance mods/what to do next

do a compression test on your motor if they are good, get a used zex or nitrous kit and run a 50 shot, get some colder plugs before you install that, I think you will be satisfied for a while with that setup.

Nitrous will only damage your motor if you lean out or are making more power than the bottom-end can handle.

I've heard some people getting 15 runs out of a 15lb bottle; but this depends on how big the shot is. If you want it to last as long as it can, just ask for two of their biggest bottles
