95 s10 started fine but then went south

i recently replaced ignition control module but now the solenoid is going out. the other day i started it to let it run for a while. it started great and ran smooth then after about 10 minutes i heard the motor surgh then sputter and then it started shaking the whole truck. i shut it off the started it again it would not rev when gas was pressed but it would backfire loudly like timing was off. it is definitely not fuel pressure, it is getting plenty of gas. sometimes while running, the rough idle turns smoother but feels like its only firing on 4 cylinders(not much power) then starts the rough idle again. SES is on full time. it is a 4.3tbi with 195,000 miles.anyone with any clues?

If your SES light is on, there is a problem and your computer has registered a code. Get the codes read and post back with them. If you don't have a scanner, you can go to any Autozone or Advance auto parts place and get the codes read for free. Don't let them tell you that you need a part of any sort. There are a lot of things that can cause the code to register. Lets try and do a process of elimination.

Re: 95 s10 started fine but then went south

update: tried to obtain the codes by jumping the pins with a paper clip. no luck. however, i tried to start it and now it is running smooth again.i do still need to tune it up though. it had sat a while so possibly moisture got into the cap or some sediment or rust was in the fuel lines?
