'89 S10 4x4 2.8 TBI - Sensor Problem?
Hopefully one of you out there can help on this one. I'm at a loss.
My 89 2.8 5sp starts and idles just fine - pretty much like it did when it was new. Problem is that it dies whenever I let out the clutch, even in neutral. Operating temperature has no effect. My computer is giving no codes. I tested all my sensors (at least the ones that can be tested) and all were in spec. Fuel pressure at pump and at TBI also in spec. It appears that, as the clutch pedal is released some switch or sensor sends a kill signal to the ignition. Does anyone know of any sensor or switch (or anything else for that matter) that could create this symptom? |

i dont think it will do anything but you can disconnect the clutch switch on your clutch pedal, see if its something funky in that. other than that, it doesnt sound like a loading problem. see if the clutch pedal itself is pinching some wires or something.

could the ignition/clutch switch be faulty?
(the switch where you have to push in the clutch to start the truck) |

that doesnt do anything but let the starter start, it isnt connected to anything that could kill the engine. the only thing it could do is the wires might short out on metal and blow a fuse. or those wires might get cut and be open, in which case the thing would never start. it definitely sounds like something is being pinched by the clutch lever.

RahX, I think you've hit it. One of those simple things I never thought of, but there does appear to some connection in that area that's interfering. I reached up and moved the wiring around and it seems to have solved the problem. Thanks for the idea!
