I am getting the Alpine CDA-9851 installed today in my 1996 Volvo 850.
People have told me that the speakers in the car are decent enough, so I decided to upgrade the subs first. The problem with the current subs in the car is that the "oomph" is not that clear, and it makes the car rattle if put on too high. I want sub(s) that sound good, with a lot of oomph. What would you guy's recommend for a new amp and sub? I mainly listen to underground rap, country, and some rock / ska. But mainly rap. My budget is 200 - 350, without the installation fee and all of that. Thank you. |

Everything is stock in my car except for the deck. 1) What would be a good amp to go along with my deck. My deck has 3 Pre amp outputs, and 18W RMSx4. 2) What should be the general thing I look for in an amp. What wattage? etc. 3) Same thing for a subwoofer, how many watts should I look for, what size, how many? etc. |

Re: Re: Got a headunit, now need an amp and sub(s)
well for around your budget it's tough, but not impossible. I just bought a pioneer sub for 66 bucks on ebay (400 watts RMS is what it can handle) what you want to look at is RMS (which is the constant power it will draw) as opposed to max wattage (what it will get for very short amounts of time) same thing with an amp, look for RMS not max wattage. I just bought a pioneer premier GM7150M mono amp for 120 on ebay (shipped) (puts out 150 watts at 4 ohms and 360 watts at 2 ohms) reviews I've read say it's pretty good but I can't speak yet as I haven't gotten it. but to buy that amp, and the sub and a box would be about 200 or so.

Ebay is gonna be your best bet for sure with that budget or some of the good folks here on this forum will have good things for a good price. Second, do the job yourself. check the sticky for good subs and amps; there will be a lot of opinions on all sorts of brands. You will need a vented/ported enclosure (or maybe bandpass) since you listen to rap though i'm just assuming you want the "boom" that rap and ported bass delivers. Personally for subs, I like audiobahn and eclipse. I have kenwoods that are all right with the right amount of power. Infinity subs will play really loud as well. i don't think you will need that much rms for your subs either, probably 250-350 so any popular brand amp will do. This is just from my experience, but don't EVER buy sony subs or amps.
