Engine swaps

OK I am not asking about the LS1 this time since that seemed to piss everybody off so much, But I am woundering about the 7M/1JZ-GTE/2JZ-GTE/RB25/VG30 swaps I know alot of you are going to be screaming at me to turbo the KA or swap in an SR, but I have heard so many bad things about both of those engines (prob just people pointlessly agguing not sure though) that I am looking at other options, I have heard that the 2JZ swap is imposably hard due to the turbo manifold getting in the way, can anyone confirm this for me, and is there an aftermarket turbomanifold that would fit well? The 7M and 1JZ I have not heard much about period, just that people have done them. With the RB25 swap the only bad thing that I have heard is that is the weight distrabution is off a bit, but that won't be a prob for me since I am planning to install a water/alky tank, and move the battery to the trunk, and it requires a custom crossmember, not a big deal either my brother is a welder. So what are your oppions on these swaps, I can get any one of there engines for about 3k or less, the insalation is the only thing that I am worried about. Can the Nissan engines bolt up to the KA tranny, of can the regular trannys fit into the 240s tunnel? Please don't jump on me for not imedatly assuming that I should install a SR I know they are what the car was designed to use and they can make massive HP, I am just looking at my other options first. Oh yea and one more question is the RB20 the same engine block as the RB25 and 26 just with a shorter stroke? One persone even told me that it is the same block design as the 2.8s that they used to put on the old Zs.

Re: Engine swaps

at d1gp i saw a 1jz and 2jz swap into an s13 chasis, which was the first time ever and i was kinda werded out...good execution though...the swaps were extremely clean...
all others you listed are possible swaps but ive never seen a 7m and it might not be worth it b/c the turbo versions of it make like 245hp or something which an sr could do easily and its a lot less complicated to swap it...

Re: Engine swaps

Your Weight balance will be lame with all of these.

7M-GTE - Meh, 1/10 Style points for coming from the MA70 Supra. It would get the job done and has the capability for decent power.

1JZ-GTE or 2JZ-GTE - 9/10 Stlye points for being the most awesome sounding motors ever short of a Ferrari. Shouldn't be too hard since the Turbos and such are on the other side of the motor but the wiring is 100% different and there will be plenty of custom fab involved. The 2JZ might need some sort of faggy cowl induction hood though from being bigger.

RB25DET - 2/10 Style points Only Reason for an RB25 over an SR is the sound. Costs will be equal HP to HP.

VG30DETT - 0/10 for being way too hard to do.

VQ35DE - Would be cool as shit. the Motor sounds amazing and weighs hardly nothing. The Front of the motor would probably be parralel with the fire wall. It would prolly make 280whp with a standalone and exhaust (which you need to get it to run). The only problem is that you'll need to move the shifter forward to use the 6spd tranny.

Re: Engine swaps

get whatever you want to get any engine that isnt designer for the 240 will be plenty of additional work and involve a lot more troubleshooting then you cuold possibly think of just keep that in mind. and what are you going for in the swap whats your reasoning? drifting? drag? auto x? that can all be a deciding factor

OK so that narrows it down to a JZ or a VQ, either one of these is awsome. why is the RB not a good choice I thought that it one of the best engines around? I know that I would have to do some custome work to swap the VQ, RB, or LS seriese engines into the 240 now I am just trying to find out which would be easiest to do. All three of them are capable of reaching 500hp on stock internals, all three are top notch proformance engines the 2jz has the highest hp potential while the other two are lightweight AL blocks, and wont throw the weight off as much and won't have to be offset by moving the batttery and such. Has anybody done a VQ swap yet? I have seen the other two and they are great. BTW I al looking to build a street/strip car with good hp and driveable low end torque, I am considering methonol suplamental injection to raise the boost by one bar over stock with pump gas, I know I could reach my 500hp goal with the SR20 but making streetable troque on a 2.0L with a lowerd CR would be another story. And I figure by time I install the aftermarket forged internals that I would need to make the SR stand up to that kind of power reliably I could install a stronger motor with a higher displacement and more torque. Maby a little more for the bigger motor swap but not much I am guessing. Oh one more stupid question is the RB26 much better than the 25 I have heard that they are all but imposable to swap into a 240 though.

Re: Engine swaps

an rb26dett would be easier than a 2jz...and it has a higher hp record im not sure what the 2jz one is but the rb26dett is like 1700ps with an n1 block or whatever...

Re: Engine swaps

He didn't say the Rb wouldn't be good, he said it had a low coolness level, which seems to be the only thing driving you since your asking about this in a forum. Talk about it again when you finished the swap...or at least started it.

Well pardon me there is not exactly a large number skyline enthusests here in the US (10 street legal cars at last count) so I figured yall would be the most informed on the subject since this was the only other car that I know of that beople swaped the RB into! If you got a problem with me asking the most informed people let me know! Or if you know a better informed group of people that speak english send me a link. No I am not going for "coolness factor" why else would I be tlaking about balencing the weigh and dabating about the lighter engines???? Did you ever stop for one second to actualy read my post and if you did what were you thinking?????? I could make the KA look cool, and I am sure there is a cheap plastic valve cover for sale somewhere for it that says NISSMO of RB and has a bunch of funky jappaneese wrighting on it I could fool 99.9% of the earths population with, if I was going for "coolness" don't you think that would be a lot freaking easier! I don't care if I get chewed out of banned for saying all this you are in the wrong assuming stuff about me like that! Anyway my rant is over back to the subject at hand. OK here is my goals again 500hp on pump gas, drivable torque, under 7k for the whole conversion, and I don't give a flying #!@* if it looks pretty or impresses anybody, in fact I would profer it not to, I love a good sleeper.

Please note that I never mentioned cool or "coolness factor" one time in my prevous posts, the only thing I wrote about was fast and practicality of a swap. Nuf said.

Re: Engine swaps

Under 7k? 500hp on pump gas? Yeah....good luck with that...like I said, once you at least started the swap then prove it to me and I'll make formal appologies.

Re: Engine swaps

There are more than 10 street legal skylines in the US. I have personally seen 3 skylines myself that are street legal.
