dumb questions about exhaust

OK,
I decided Im going to get an exhaust system, but I dont understand all I need to get... I go on ebay and they have exhaust mufflers for like $100 which seems great but then I see exhaust systems for like $400. Whats the differance and what do you all suggest for cheap but still nice and a greedy is too expensive! what is cat back and axel back?? what about massive or B1 bomb? Thanks for the input!!

Ok, heres what I know...

An exhaust muffler is just that... a muffler... It probably flows better than the stock one... by itself, it probably wouldnt give that much horsepower...

A cat back exhaust goes from the catalytic converter back... it probably wont give much horsepower either, but would probably add more than just a muffler...

I have no idea what axel back, B1 Bomb, or Massive are...

Hi and welcome to AF

Well listen dude there are no dumb questions so dont worry about it, anything you have questions on just ask

Well first off I suggest getting a cat-back system. This will improve exhuast flow, and help expel and keep exhuast gases from going back into the combustion chambers, which takes up space, thus having less volume for the air/fuel ratio to fill.

Get a cat-back system if you're really looking for performance.

The mufflers you see for $100 wont do anything man. They're just for sound, and if thats what you want then get that. They're just there to 'look' pretty, but most of those mufflers are all sound, and the sound you get is usually that high-pitched weedwacker kinda sound, that sounds like your car is gonna explode :hehe:

Oh and the Axle-backs are just replacements from the rear axle back into the muffler.

So the decision is up to you and what you wanna do with your car.

$100 for just sound
or
$400 for something that will actually improve throttle response etc...

Anymore questions you have there are LOTS more knowledgeable people in here that can answer them! Good luck with the car!

I think that massive and b1 bomb are brands of exhaust. how much are you looking to spend?
just remember that you get what you pay for. the reason that greddy costs a little more then others is cuz its performance is better.

Intake: AEM CAI (cold air intake) - get a K&N air filter on it - good for 10 years or a million miles! =) Or something like that.

Header (not headerS - unless you have like a V6 or something with two exhaust manifolds. But if you're like the rest of us with a civic, you only have 1 header) - Check out a DC Sports header. Popular brand, kinda expensive, but time-tested and used everywhere.

Exhaust - GReddy. But it all depends on what you want out of it. Sound? Performance?

Check out the FAQ - it probably has a lot of answers for you -

And welcome to AF =)

i agree with all the stuff hxcivic said but in the end u will have to dig deep into the research pile if u want something of good quality at a decent price. just look around at stuff that will meet your specifications.then you will be happy with what you get.

right - and remember that if you want it, chances are that someone here has it/knows something about it and can give you some info that you won't be able to have until you put it on the car.
