Fitting wheels on 79 MGB
Hi-
I am completley redoing my mg and I would like to put bigger size wheels on it. I am goin for a 16" rim and I found 4 but 4.5 inch drilled rims. they are however 16x7.0. Is is 7 too wide for this car, anyone have any ideas. Here is the link to what I found, it is a good deal so I am wondering if these will fit. let me know, thanks http://stores.channeladvisor.com/tir...itemid=2998235 Jason malia |

Re: Fitting wheels on 79 MGB
Jason, I don't believe 7 inch rims will fit without doing some fender modifications. You will need a very low profile tire for 16" rims if you wish to keep close to the correct speedometer readings. Keep in mind the MGB suspension design is over 40 years old and was not made for modern tires of today. A 15" rim is commonly used to upgrade the MGB, Some owners get a 205/55/15 under the car OK but others have problems with the rear rubbing. You have to be careful with the offset of the rim you select. You can go here for more information about tire/wheel selection and offsets.

Re: Fitting wheels on 79 MGB
Jason, I have used alloy wheels from a Honda Accord with both 195/60 X15 tires and 205/50x15 tires. The rims were 6" wide the 205's required modifcation to the rear wheel wells to prevent rubbing. You can see pictures of the cars with these wheels at http://www.hononwah.freeweb-hosting.com/home/home.htm the 1969 Roadster has the 205's and the 71 Gt uses the 195's. good luck
