2002 Impala losig oil

My 2002 Impala is losing oil. It is not leaking onto the ground, but every month the oil level low light comes on and when I check the level it is low and I have to add oil. Any advice on how to get it fixed.

Thanks

check for leaks on the intake manifold, I just had mine fixed, but there were no oil spots on the ground.

3.4 ltr or 3.8?? you say per month, what kind of mileage in a month? total mileage on engine? How often or last oil and filter change? 1/2 qt every 2000-3000 is considered reasonable. Can also be a sign that you don't get it filled correctly, this doesn't happen that often but I have seen it done.

Re: 2002 Impala losig oil

I've also seen this issue on a 2001 Impala w/3800 V6 -- strangest thing -- Dealer couldn't find the problem either -- There is a TSB about the intake manifold leak, but the strangest thing is that it doesn't smoke like it's burning oil -- I even switched from synthetic to straight up Penzoil dinosaur juice and still no visible signs of where the oil is going.

Checking the dipstick verifies that the sensor is correct -- I guess checking the plugs would help indicate severe oil burning, as would a fouled O2 sensor or dead cat, but I think that the oil consumption may only occur at cetain times during the engine warm up/drive cycle, so it may not show (?)...

I changed the oil in the spring -- the consumption was greater just after that (monthly) -- Now, it's been more than three months -- so? Maybe summer over winter?

At one point I thought that the Qt. of Lucas Oil I added was causing the sensor to misread because it is so heavy, and the early "low oil level" indicator would go away shortly after engine warm up, but the dipstick tells the tale... The oil is going somewhere??????

my 2000 impala was doing the same, oil was leaking into the engine coolant though the intake manifold gasket about $500 for repair at dealer.
