Please help!!!!!! NEwbie!!!!!!!!!!!

i just bought a 1991 civic hatch. it has no exhaust past the cat. I need to put a new exhaust on. however i want to put a large high flow muffler ( just a loud, huge high flow muffler nothing special). I noticed that these cars exhausts go to the muffler then the exit is turned. so if someone were to take the muffler off and put a high flow one on, it would not be sticking out so you could see the shiny muffler. Or would it? i saw that some of the mufflers are not pointing straight back, they are slanted? that doesnt mind me. I need some help very bad? I dont like the aftermarket catback exhausts that have the muffler not visible then just a larger tip stiking out. PLease help guys......

Re: Please help!!!!!! NEwbie!!!!!!!!!!!

ill sell you my skunk2 exhaust, it hangs really far out, and i hate it.

but really, it all depends what you get, some mufflers for our cars hang below the wheel well, very sexy, and others have ugly fart cans that hang out. Or you can get it custom made at a muffler shop to get exactly what you want.

Re: Re: Please help!!!!!! NEwbie!!!!!!!!!!!

sounds like someones been eating some rice krispies, lol

I have my muffler coming out the other side!,less back pressure
(no bends)
but lets not get on a subject of back pressure, because I'm building my exhaust with the right amount of back pressure, for my motor!

Re: Re: Re: Please help!!!!!! NEwbie!!!!!!!!!!!

well i got the standard 4 sd 91 hatch. as we all now the stock exhaust is shit. so it rotted off. it now only has the cat and no farther back. This is a project car and do not want to put a lot of money into it. Should i buy a stock exhaust and cut the muffler off anf put an extenxion with a curve on it? then put a muffler on it? or should i have a local shop do it? I am on a tight budget but want that deep sound. i am not really worried about increased speed because the civic only has 80k on it and i do not intend to do an engine swap for about 200k.please helps guys

Call your local muff shops. A OK muffler should cost you $40 and the pipe is cheap I would go with 2" or 2 1/4" I would think that most hole in the wall shops would do it for $100 to $120

If its a small shop, you might get lucky and only have to pay $50 for them to redo the pipe. If you take it to a place and have them do it, you can just get a universal muffler and have them make it how ever you want. The ones that are slanted is to take out that last 90 degree bend and makes it alot easier to fit a muffler and tip under it.

Re: Re: Re: Please help!!!!!! NEwbie!!!!!!!!!!!

so how should i tell them? i want them to put stock pipes back on it from catback, but then at the end i dont want the oem style muffler setup. i want them to put a pipe extension were the muffler should be and then have the high flow universal muffler sticking out so it looks nice. I am new and i think it is hard to explain what i want. How much do you think it will cost for exhaust, and installing the uni muffler differently from were the correct spot is? Here is exactly how i want it.

Re: Please help!!!!!! NEwbie!!!!!!!!!!!

yea thats a good deal.

on the exhaust, just get a muffler from wherever, can pick them up pretty cheap on ebay. Go to a muffler shop and see how much it will cost to get 2 1/4" pipes run from the cat back. Just tell them at the back you want it coming out at a 45 degree angle.

yea, just bought a 30 muffler off ebay. A stainless one. How loud are they? i like loudness. How much you think it will cost to have a muffler shop put exhaust from the catback and install my muffler at an angle so it sticks out like this?

Re: Please help!!!!!! NEwbie!!!!!!!!!!!

No one can tell you exactly how loud its gonna be, because the exhaust note depends on what all is done to the car and how the exhaust is run and a bunch of other variables. But if you just run that with a cat, its gonna be loud and eventually your gonna get tired of it. It does make you more obvious for the cops and any other little punk who thinks they have a badass car. If later you think its too loud you can have resonators put in your exhaust to quieten down some. But as for cost, just depends on the shop. I was able to find shops to do it for $50, while others can charge $100 and up.
