GTP or not
so im thinking about buying a grand prix and i got it narrowed down to a couple. ones a 97 GP with 60k miles on it and the other a 98 GP GTP with 140K, both same price, is GTP worth the big difference in mileage? dont have too much $ to play with either..having trouble deciding...any opinions

Re: GTP or not
I have a 98 GTP and love it. It has 90K on it but still runs great with regular maintenance. The supercharger really gives you a feel for power without have a big V8. I am getting about 30 MPG on the highway and about 22 in town. I drive 80 miles to work round trip so I'm sure that helps with the MPGs. But I also use Lucas fuel injector cleaner about every 3-4 fill-ups. I'm not sure what the MPG's are on a GT that you are also looking at but I dont think it's much different than the GTP as long as you dont get on it very often.
Just my opinion... |

. Personally, i think 60k miles is hard to pass up, that should last you a while.

Re: GTP or not
I would have to go with the GTP. The engine in the GTP is superior to the normally aspirated 3.8 and it had far more power. As for the rest of the car it is pretty much the same as the GT except for the transmission that is heavy duty to handle the extra horsepower. The only drawback to this one is the high mileage. Of course my forum name is GTP Dad!

Re: GTP or not
If you say that after you buy the car you wont have alot of money to put in it. The 97 GT would be more practicle. For the GTP 140,000 is not really alot of miles too. These cars have been known to get up to and above 250,000. My 97 has 118,000 miles. Motor and S/C is original, tranny was rebuilt at 110,000 miles...Cost $3200.00.In both cars check the trans fluid. Make sure fluid is clean and pinkish. And Take note of how both trannys shift when you test drive. If it has a hard shift you may be looking at trouble in the future. The GT does not have as many options to modify. The GTP there are alot more simple mods and will gain a significant increase in HP.
