05 crown vic overhead console

I have a question about the electronics in the overhead console in the 05 model. Are there optional consoles for this year model? I have a friend with an LX model that lacks the elctronics for the mileage to empty, outside temp, etc. Can he replace this with the upgrade and is it plug and play.

The wiring setup for the compass/ temp is simple, its all built into that overhead console unit. That's just a matter of splicing into your dome lighting circuit for power. However, the trip computer (gas mileage to empty) is more complicated because it's built somewhere inside the dash connected with the car's computer, so I am not sure how difficult it is to install one of those in a car not already equipped with one.

On the same note a question?

I have a few of the early series trip computers out of 1988 and 1989 CV. I was wondering if they would work on a newer car ie:1999.
