Thumbs down Instrument Cluster

I have an '89 525i that all of a sudden the tach, fuel and temp gauges go out. The speedometer works just fine. The message board tries to light up and just chimes. Got in to drive today and it works fine. However, when I turned the car off and restarted, it's out again??! Any ideas? Instrument cluster starting to go out? I did check the fuses and they all seem fine.

It sounds like your tach, fuel and temp gauges are all run by the same circuit (not the circuit connected by each gauge's sensor, but the power circuit that adjusts them once the engine is started) There must be a short in this circuit, found after the fuses since they are not blown.
