Main Beam problem

Hi

I have a 1998 CVPI. It has developed a fault with the pasanger side main beam. Only the main beam on the drivers side works. I have replaced the bulb, but that had no effect. Im stumped. I was wondering if this could be related to the flashing headlights that cop cars have?

Also, although infrequent, whilst driving with the regular lights on, they will just switch off all on their own. I have read the forum, and believe this is most likely the headligh switch. One is on order. I was wondering if these 2 faults are related?

The wiring diag. in the standard Haynes manual is practically usless to help me diagnose these faults. Any one got a cop car wiing diagram?

All help and comments welcome

Neil

Look in the fuses section of your owners manual (if you don't have one, use the link above) and figure out which circuit breaker (in the under dash fuse box) goes to your headlamps. Replace it, either with a new circuit breaker or with a 30 amp fuse. I prefer using the fuse since the CB's have caused constant issue for me, and I've had none using fuses yet. That is the most common solution to your headlights cutting off on a 98 model. The actual switch on 95 up models rarely fails, and when it does, it's after extremely high mileage.

As for your no RH low beam issue, you simply need a test light to check the ground and hot wires to the bulb socket. Very simple wiring repair. Most common place for cut wires is between the two headlights in the main harness or at the actual headlamp where wig wags have been previously installed & removed. It usually a simple, straight forward process of just reconnecting two like colored wires.
