What is this connector?
I'm attempting to self-diagnose a rear ABS problem (dash light always on) and am traying to get the trouble codes.
My Haynes manual says to 'ground the diagnostic terminal located on the floor in the cab'. I searched high and low for this mysterious terminal and this picture is what I found. It's located under the driver's side kick panel. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...e/diagport.jpg Am I even close? Any suggestions? Haynes says the test plug is under the abs control module which is mounted under the seat.

That is one of them, there is another with an orange wire coming out of the sleeve, I just finally identified these conntectors after years of puzzlement.
Get yourself the Workshop Manual on ebay, its much better when discussing electrical componets. I think the Haynes guys were guessing or at least wearing Fruit of the Loom that day they wrote that guide!! |

My Haynes (copyright 2003) says the diagnostic terminal is located 'in the corner of the floor on the driver's side under the ECM' no specific year listed. (Haynes is weak in some areas) I've removed BOTH seats and found nothing under the drivers seat. The wire loom goes straight across. Under the passenger seat I found the ABS circuit board, which I'll call the control module? I had a good look around and found no terminals. Just the connector for the circuit board. So, I removed the driver's kick panel and found the connector pictured above. I know the OBDIII diagnostic terminal is there too, but my advanced code reader doesn't detect any brake codes. Neither did the Isuzu dealer and a Midas brake shop. Ok if I've found one of the terminals, and there is a second one with orange wire, where is it and then what should happen next? I've got a long drive planned for next weekend and would like to have a better idea what is wrong before I take it to the dealer for a specific fix. $85 an hour! OUCH. It's a good shop but they aren't dumb and know how to charge wicked high billable hours. I'll look for a better manual but maybe of you members has been down this road of self-diagnose and can keep me moving on the next steps. As always - much appreciated, Tom from the land of icy roads

Ok, you asked, but I have information on a 92 rodeo, but it may be the same, I do not know.
I'm repeating this right from my workshop manual for a 92 rodeo. The RWAL system contains 13 diagnostic codes which make the system troubleshooting straightforward. Momentarily grounding the rwal diagnosic lead (orange) with the read antilocking light on, will cause the light to flash out a diagnosis code if a shutdown has been detected and is in memory. Count the number of of short flashes starting from the long flash. Include the long flash as a count. Sometimes the first count sequence is short because the flashout started with the count already in progess. Subsequently counts, however, will be accurate. If there is more than one system failure, only the first reconized diagnostic code will be retained in memory and flashed. If a diagnstic code cannot be obtained and any of the following light conditions are observed:rear antilock light off but no two second bulb self check, brake light on and rear antilock light off, both rear antilock and brake light on or flashing. The charts are too big for me to retype. Please get me this info and I'll get you the explanations. Hope this helps!!

Sorry I miss read, the orage connector should be positioned right beside the one pictured above. It is located in the same places as the data terminal is. You might have to fish it out of the body with you fingers but it should be very close to the connector you took a picture of. Also you have removed the ick panel right? The picture above shows the wires sort of under the channel under the door, it should not be there, it should have been by the kick plate. But ya know, I had my ABS worked on years ago, you might have to remove that channel, the techs could have routed my connectors to the kick panel.

I'm hestitant. To the dealer? Decisions, decisions. Of course I could increase the insurance coverage and drive around with no ABS........nah, I like this Rodeo too much. Any other suggestions?

Was it an orange with blue dots? Sometimes, I'm just stupid, orange with blue dots in a single connector is the diag terminal.

you stuck your finger into the hole underneath the ecm? It might be there that you have to pull it out of!

The wiring schematics are not going to help you find the connector, just checked my Haynes for 89-97, it says its under the ECM, just like mine is. Your just going to have to fish for it in that hole. Be sure you pull the ALDL connector out of the way and get a flashlight in there, maybe you'll see it.

The diagnostic connector goes directly to pin 12 on the anti lock brake controller under the passenger seat. This is incase it was cut or removed. The conector itself can hold 17 wires in it, wire 1 is green/yellow (for reference) wire 7 is the diagnostic terminal, it is orange. Wire 8 is red (for reference).

Good luck in the easter egg hunt. My haynes manual is probably the same as yours, no pics. My factory service manual wont be any help either since its only for 98+ rodeos and troopers. And my rodeo is a '99 so would be different then yours. Guess I'm not much help hehe.
