Smile ford guy got some questions

well guys im trying to put together a budget sleeper. i was gunna buy an old ford fairmont futura and make it look like hell, twist one of the ead lights, take off a door and a fender and sand them to primer, kick in a door, crack the widnshield ever so slightly, just make it look like hell. and drop in a 351windsor based motor (393). for about 5-6k in the motor i could make around 600hp but that would be if i got a sweet deal on a used supercharger. it would probly be closer to 7k with all the machine work and a used vortech. my old man was a chevy guy when he was a bit younger and into hotrodin. he told me to look into a 350 cuz they are so cheep to build. what do you guys think i could build a comparable 350 for? are there certian blocks that are stronger than others? how much is 600hp a safe amountto run on the block? ill do all the assembly so with that inmind what do you guys suggest. thanks abunch for any help, im not a complete chevyretard, my dad gave me his 400 4 bolt but when i tore it apart it was cracked on both sides of the lifter valley. iv herd its common but i dontknow if its the best placeto start being that is it siamesse bore and you have to worryabotu the heat issues.

Re: ford guy got some questions

well if you want a LOT of power and you have some $ you can do like forumlaLT1.... take a 4 bolt LT1 block stoke it to a 383, port the heads, match port the intake manifold, and then blow it, etc... he should be in the 700 range

You dont have to beat it up, just get like different colored panels and that will be enough.

Re: ford guy got some questions

i think the mis mathced pannels will be a nice touch but i still have to decide on an engine first. one of the golden things abotu the 351 windsor is, im a ford guy and i have to look for a few seconds before relising its a 351 and not a 302 found in any mustang. the only difference is a 351 is an inch wider and the colant inlet on the intake manifold is a bit farther away from the valve cover. even if the hood is pooped and the guy is checkin it out. at best they will think its a mid 11 second 302 and that is if i put a blower on it. a 393 with boost will trhow down 600 hp with 14 lbs. but itll cost me a bit of $$$ there fore im trying to see what a chevy will cost me.

Re: ford guy got some questions

from the outside few people can tell the difference between any small block. Do you want to use nitrous? You could get one of these ( http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...0763&langId=-1 ) as a starting point. Or build a comparable motor with a used block for less than that. The most expensive thing will be the heads. You will be spending ~1500+ dollars on heads for some good ones. stock LT1 heads Im pretty sure(n/a) are good to about 450 to 500. They wont work on any regular small block though. A decent used 350 block will cost you about 300, a forged 383 rotating assembly will cost you about 1500, then you have the rest of the parts and pieces that will vary in cost depending on what you want. All of this you can dig around for and find used. There are forums on the internet at other websites that have classifieds with people selling stuff you just have to be carefull. Local car clubs will have people selling parts as well.
