Need help selecting a turbo for my b16a

Hi ppl,

I have been running a b16a fully built,
with Full-race stage 3 GT35R turbo Kit,
around 24 pounds of boost we have been making may be around 500hp ...
i used to get the full punch of boost around 5500rpm,
but last nigt my turbo gave up on me.... and now i need a new turbo...

with the GT35R i had too much power, a complete wheel spin till the mid of my third gear. and extreme acceleration in the third and forth gear.
but it felt like i didn't have the first and 2nd gear. the wheels spin and leave a cloud of smoke but the car doesn't move much in the first 2 gears and this is with 215/40/16R tires in the front. i wouldn't mind stopping at a lower peak horse power, with a better quarter mile time.
My question is that.....
many of u ppl have been running turbos on b16's....
which turbo should i get, that would give me a very good peak horse power with a full punch on around 3500 to 3800 rpm.
in other words which turbo is the best to use with a b16a motor.

if you were concerned with your times. why run with 16 inch tires? basically, you want to lower the power so you can have more control on the track? skip over the power issues and look at what you are doing for traction control. what are you doing or have done about it?

what do you see as good peak power? full boost by 3500, seeing that you ran a gt35r, you should already know that there are plenty of ball bearing turbos and t3/t4 hybrids out there that will do that for you.

best? define best? seeing that you are built, i dont think you have much of a problem in turbo selection.

Re: Need help selecting a turbo for my b16a

why not just pick the next smaller GT series BB turbo....that would give you better low end pick up and not as much power......

I'd personally get better tires (slicks) and get a Hondata system or something w/ launch control to keep the spinning under wrap....

My friends i do have a pair of 225/50/15 R Hoosier Drag Radials.
I think i should throuw em on now, i have been scared of braking my axles, thats why i haven't put em on yet. i am running ha sport stage 1 axles.

I was looking @ a precision piece yesterday, it was a t3/t4

SC-6031 i believe with .60 a/r on intake and .63 a/r on exsaust.

wht do u ppl think about this one ? i think it was rated upto 580hp on the flywheel. so may be 475-500 to the wheels @ 28 pounds of boost.

Also, should i run 17" wheels instead of 16", will that give me better traction. I do have full tien suspension, strust bars and a full-race traction bar on my car.

thanks for ur quick replies, i wouldn't have been able to bring my car to this point where it stands today.

all the credit goes to AF.

marry x-mas to all of ya from me.

i think if you go w/ a nonBB turbo you're going to be dissapointed w/ the performance. Get the same turbo, new stage 4 axles, and toss on the slicks....life will be good then!

Re: Need help selecting a turbo for my b16a

my advice would be to get a turbo similar to what you had, but get an LSD and some slicks....the rim size is up to you, but that's just going to change the gearing on your car.....may or may not be a good idea

Re: Need help selecting a turbo for my b16a

you need the lsd and slicks but i would not go with a smaller turbo they spell more traction issues. since this is a built motor i would go with the next stage up. i know this is a stupid question but you do have full race urethane mounts right?

i got quaife, have slicks will put em on soon,

here's the plan,

i am going to get the sc-6031 precision piece,

and i talked to full-race, ill get mine replaced under warranty, the GT35R

so i'll try both of them and see the difference.....

* i do have hasport uretheane mounts.

I'll post results of both and let u ppl know about the difference..

I am not sure what kind of 35r series turbo you have, but get the gt3582 series. It is both oil and water cooled unlike simple oil cooled GT3571. It should last you a bit longer.

a super 60 on a gsr...............................not really my flavor even on a stock block. on a b16..............yes, but id stick with t3/t4s or something better on a mildly built gsr.

Re: Need help selecting a turbo for my b16a

superbluecivicsi......do you consider a 500hp GSR previously running a GT3k5R a mild build? I sure dont and dont think many people will agree with that. If you look into the 60-1 you will see it is perfectly suited for a 500hp small displacement engine. Also the Precision 6769 is also a good all around "500hp" turbo that will give good spool down low and flow enough air up top.

lets stay with the original question of
Quote:

applied to the gsr.

are you running a super 60 or just 60 trim? why did you go with the 60? what power are you making? where? its limitation is?

ive ran the super 60 on my old b16 rex. it is a fairly small turbo. it reached full boost by 3800. it will run out of breathe in the top end though. great street turbo, but, as for making power past 300whp, not really what i would want to work with.

if your looking for 500whp, and want some good 10k rpm passes, you wont be satisfied with the super 60. unless you want to work your super 60 harder, i guess that would be fine. id personally find something bigger.

Re: Need help selecting a turbo for my b16a

I am refering to the turbonetics 60-1 stg 5 .63 A/R. I still dont know what a super 60 is but i know the 60-1 is good for 500 whp and with the ball bearing option would be perfect for his car.
