1999 taurus rear defroster problem

I recently installed a radio in my sisters 1999 taurus, using the special kit. I was able to install the radio and the a/c controls just fine, but the defroster switch/button had no hookups, and from what i can tell, the defroster ran through wires that were connected to the original radio. I think I can get the switch to work, I'm just having trouble locating the wires that run through the relay. If anyone could tell me where the relay is located or where the (GEM) is located I'd greatly appreciate it or if anyone can give me any other information about how to hook back up the rear defroster, that would be greatly appreciated too. Thanks!

Re: 1999 taurus rear defroster problem

You are correct, the wires for the rear defrost/heated side mirrors are part of the connector for the Integrated Control Panel (ICP). They are part of connector C237. I've posted the schematic for the rear window defroster at http://www.members.aol.com/Rod241473...ff/defrost.pdf and connector face/pinout diagram at http://www.members.aol.com/Rod241473...Stuff/C237.pdf

The GEM module is located between the firewall and the Instrument Panel fuse panel. The fuse panel rides piggyback on the GEM.

Per the schematic, it appear the rear window defrost/heated mirror relay is located in the instrument panel fuse panel.
